Custom social cards

When you paste a link into X, LinkedIn, Slack, or WhatsApp, the platform fetches the page and builds a preview card. Ordinary shorteners just pass through whatever the destination provides, which is often wrong, generic, or missing entirely.

Snipvio lets you override it per link.

Setting a card

Edit any link and fill in the Social card (Open Graph) fields:

  • Title: the headline on the card, up to 120 characters
  • Description: the supporting line, up to 300 characters
  • Image URL: a full https URL. 1200×630 pixels is the standard that looks right everywhere.

How it works

Snipvio identifies preview crawlers by their user agent. When one of them requests your link, it receives a small page carrying your Open Graph tags. Real visitors never see that page: they get the normal instant redirect.

This means the card you design is what gets shown, regardless of what the destination's own tags say.

When this is worth it

  • Linking to an article whose stock image is poor
  • Sharing a PDF or document that has no preview at all
  • Running the same destination across several campaigns and wanting different framing for each
  • Pointing at a site you do not control and cannot edit

Practical notes

Platforms cache preview cards aggressively. If you change a card after sharing, existing posts often keep the old preview. Set your card before the first share.

Your image must be publicly reachable. Files behind a login or on a private network will not render.
