Use a subdomain, not your root domain
Connect something like go.yourbrand.com or link.yourbrand.com. Do not point your root domain at Snipvio: that is where your actual website lives, and redirecting it would take your site down.
Setup

- At your DNS provider, create one record:

The status flips from Pending DNS to Live once the record resolves. DNS usually propagates in a few minutes, occasionally up to an hour.

Add the record where your nameservers point
Before anything else, check which provider actually answers DNS for your domain. Look up its nameservers at your registrar.
If they point at Cloudflare, Cloudflare serves every lookup, and a record added anywhere else has no effect whatsoever. The same is true in reverse. This is the most common reason a correct-looking record never verifies: it was added in a panel nobody is querying any more.
CNAME only, and why
Snipvio accepts a CNAME pointing at snipvio.com. It does not accept an A record pointing at an IP address.
That is deliberate rather than a limitation. Our servers sit behind shared addresses, so anyone could point a domain they do not own at the same IP. A CNAME to our hostname is something only the domain's real operator can create, which makes it proof of control.
Only your links work on your domain
Once verified, go.yourbrand.com serves links from your account only. If someone else tries to use a code from a different account on your domain, they get a not-found page.
This matters: without that restriction, anyone could attach a phishing destination to your brand's domain simply by sharing their own short code on it.

Removing a domain
Disconnecting stops links resolving on that host immediately. The links themselves survive and still work on snipvio.com, so nothing is lost permanently.

What DNS record do I need?

Why is an A record not accepted?
Because it would not prove anything. Our servers sit behind shared addresses, so anyone could point a domain they do not own at the same IP. Only the real operator of a domain can create a CNAME to our hostname, which is what makes it valid evidence of control.
Can I use my root domain instead of a subdomain?
You should not. Your root domain is where your website lives, and pointing it at Snipvio would take that site offline. Use a subdomain such as go, link or to.
What happens to my existing links when I add a domain?
They keep resolving on snipvio.com and are not rewritten, so nothing you have already shared breaks. New links are issued on your own domain from that point on.
Why does my domain still say pending?
Almost always because the record was added at a provider that no longer answers DNS for the domain. Check your nameservers first. On Cloudflare, also confirm the record's proxy is set to DNS only rather than proxied.
