This is the full GoDaddy setup for serving short links from go.yourbrand.com instead of snipvio.com.
Before you start
Confirm GoDaddy is still answering DNS for your domain. In My Products → Domains, open the domain and look at its nameservers. If they read ns01.domaincontrol.com and similar, GoDaddy's DNS panel is the right place to work.
If they point somewhere else — Cloudflare, Route 53, your host — then that provider answers lookups and GoDaddy's DNS records are ignored entirely. Add the record there instead. A record in the wrong panel looks completely correct and does nothing.
1. Add the subdomain in Snipvio
In Dashboard → Custom Domains, add the subdomain you want, such as go.yourbrand.com. It stays at Pending DNS until the record resolves.
Use a subdomain rather than your root domain. The root is where your website lives.
2. Create the CNAME in GoDaddy
Open Domains → DNS → Manage Zones, pick your domain, then Add New Record:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | CNAME |
| Name | go |
| Value | snipvio.com |
| TTL | 1 hour (or the default) |
Enter go on its own in the Name field. GoDaddy adds your domain for you, so go becomes go.yourbrand.com. Entering the whole hostname produces go.yourbrand.com.yourbrand.com.
Save the record.
3. Verify
Return to Dashboard → Custom Domains and press Check DNS.
GoDaddy's TTL defaults are longer than most, so the record can take a few minutes to publish even though the panel shows it instantly. If the first check fails, wait a few minutes and press it again rather than editing anything.
If it stays pending
- A parked page is in the way. GoDaddy adds its own records to domains that are not pointed anywhere yet. Delete any existing
gorecord before adding yours, and remove the forwarding rule if one exists for that subdomain. - The name is doubled. Check the record list for
go.yourbrand.com.yourbrand.com. - Domain forwarding is enabled. GoDaddy's forwarding feature overrides records for the host it covers. Turn it off for that subdomain.
- You created an A record. Snipvio verifies CNAME records only, by design: an A record pointing at a shared IP address does not prove you control the domain.
What happens to your links
New links are issued on go.yourbrand.com once the domain is live. Everything you created earlier keeps resolving on snipvio.com, so no link you have already shared stops working.
Only links from your own account resolve on your domain.
Frequently asked questions
What CNAME record does GoDaddy need for Snipvio?
A CNAME with the Name field set to your subdomain, for example go, and the Value set to snipvio.com. GoDaddy appends your domain to the name, so entering the full hostname creates go.yourbrand.com.yourbrand.com.
Why is my GoDaddy CNAME not working?
Check that GoDaddy still answers DNS for the domain, because if the nameservers point elsewhere its records are ignored entirely. Then remove any existing record or forwarding rule using the same subdomain, as GoDaddy adds its own records to domains that are not yet pointed anywhere.
Does GoDaddy domain forwarding interfere?
Yes. Forwarding overrides records for the host it covers, so a forwarding rule on your subdomain will stop the CNAME working. Turn it off for that subdomain.
How long does GoDaddy take to update DNS?
GoDaddy's default TTLs are longer than most, so allow a few minutes after saving even though the record appears instantly in the panel. Re-run the check rather than editing the record again.
